Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County’s annual Youth of the Year Breakfast took place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Loveland on Thursday, February 20, 2020. The fundraising event, presented by exclusive title partners, Bank of Colorado and PFS Insurance Group, raised $147,000 to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County.
The theme of this event was “Our Future, Our Promise.” Guests heard from Congressman Joe Neguse, Fort Collins Mayor Wade Troxell, Colorado Eagles President, Chris Stewart, Colorado State University’s Vice President for Enrollment and Access, Leslie Taylor, and Board Member, Fred Abramowitz. These community leaders shared their promise for our future leaders including working to support bills that lead to new opportunities for kids and strengthening their partnerships with Boys & Girls Clubs. The Colorado Eagles announced that they are the official partners of Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer and Weld Counties.
Boys Club Alum and Current Board Member, Fred Abramowitz shared his story about how the Club changed his life. Fred attending the Boys Club in Flatbush Brooklyn after his family migrated to the US. “If it weren’t for the Boys Club, I wouldn’t be here today,” shared Fred.
It was announced at this event that Milayo Garner, Wellington Club member, was named Larimer County’s 2020 Youth of the Year! She has been attending Club for six years. The Club gave her a place to be heard. “I want to live in a world where people listen to one another instead of constantly trying to make themselves heard. I believe if we actually stop and listen to one another, we can make the world a better place,” Milayo said in her speech. Milayo will be competing in the regional competition in Denver in March.
