Last Thursday, nearly sixty community members gathered at the Sage Homes Boys & Girls Club in Wellington for the 11th annual Mayor’s Recognition Ceremony. This event celebrates the extraordinary youth who attend the Boys & Girls Club in Wellington and have received the honor of being named Youth of the Month at some point throughout 2019.

During the event, attendees got to hear from Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2018-2019 Youth of the Year Winner, Malachi Haynes. Malachi talked about his experience as a National Winner and told Wellington Club members, “I was just like you three years ago, and the Boys & Girls Club changed my life.” Malachi now attends Colorado State University studying Sports Medicine.

Guests also heard from Megan Hale, Wellington Club Director on new and exciting programs happening at the Wellington Club, as well as long-time board member, Mary McCaffrey. Finally, Wellington Mayor, Troy Hamman, awarded each Youth of the Month Winner with a certificate and told the participants how proud he and the Town of Wellington are of their accomplishments.

This event is hosted in partnership with the Wellington Chamber of Commerce and community volunteer, Mishe Daknis. Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County’s premier recognition program, celebrating Club member’s outstanding achievements. The Youth of the Year program provides the foundation youth need for advanced leadership development, academic excellence and post secondary success. These youth were chosen by their peers and staff to represent their Club as Youth of the Month.
