Arsenal soccer team photoLast week I coached my last soccer game for my son’s U12 team. Most of the boys had played together for several seasons and we had bonded over the years like a family. It was bittersweet to lose by one goal in the last few minutes of the game, but I’m not sure if I have ever felt more proud than I did when the final whistle blew. It was hard to find the time over the past four years to schedule practices, plan drills and make player awards. But in that moment, all of the days spent juggling team rosters, weeknight practices, bags full of soccer balls, goals and pinnies, was more than worth it. I knew I had made a profound difference in the lives of those kids on the field. And more importantly, they had forever changed mine.
Our children have been through a lot in the last three years and while our day to day life seems to be normalizing again, their sense of the world changed significantly in 2020. The need for connection and a sense of belonging has never been higher. Research shows when adults build meaningful relationships with kids, it creates a foundation for lifelong success. Our staff at Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County are building these relationships daily and this summer over 1,000 kids will participate in our programs, growing our impact exponentially over the next three months. We are always looking for passionate and committed volunteers to join us in our work. Whether here at BGCLC or elsewhere in our community, I invite you to take the time to lift up a child and invest in their full potential. You can truly make a difference in their life and in your own.
With Gratitude,
Allison Hines

Staff Member Honored in 2023 Best of Colorado Afterschool Winners!

Annie Baker, MSW; Christine Cunningham, LCSW; Raine Schuster, MSW; Jordan Haberkorn, BSWWe are thrilled to congratulate BGCLC’s own Christine Cunningham, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, for being awarded the “Best of Colorado Afterschool Program Director” by the Colorado Afterschool Partnership.

This annual award goes to an individual who has:
  • Developed a new program design or method or made contributions that improved a program
  • Demonstrated persistence and passion in their work
  • Gone above and beyond their regular job duties to support youth and families
  • Exemplified leadership
  • Prioritized equity within their work
Christine was a pivotal part of launching behavioral health programming at BGCLC in 2020, recognizing the critical need for addressing mental well-being among our members. With her dedication and leadership, we have been able to grow our behavioral health programming from a team of one to a team of six dedicated professionals serving over 1000 youth annually. By fostering a safe and nurturing environment, this Behavioral Health Team has empowered youth to develop important life skills, resilience, and emotional intelligence.
Christine extended the recognition to include the whole Behavioral Health Team and their efforts. Please join us in celebrating Christine and this remarkable achievement!

Important Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County Safety Update

The safety and well-being of our members and staff is always our utmost priority, so we are pleased to announce that Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County has upgraded our main entrance safety systems. We are aligning our safety protocols with the same controlled entry procedures as our partner school districts.
Effective June 5th, main entrance doors to all Clubs, as well as the Program Support Center in Fort Collins, will remain locked during operating hours. These new safety measures provide an added layer of protection and foster a secure environment for everyone. Club Directors sent communications to families earlier this month with detailed controlled entry procedures for youth pick-up. Visitors to the Program Support Center in Fort Collins will ring the video doorbell located at the blue door (west entrance) for entry.
Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for helping us maintain an environment where everyone feels secure and supported!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!
