CEO Corner

With school back in session and the morning air starting to cool, it feels like summer went by in the blink of an eye! It is hard to put into words the amount of hard work and dedication that our staff at Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County bring each day to make a successful summer program possible. This summer, BGCLC served 850 kids in 10 different Clubs throughout our Larimer County communities. We played sports, made lemon volcanoes, went bowling, and spent time reading at the library.

We also know summer is a time for adventure! BGCLC took 59 field trips throughout the summer months to explore the many special places in our own backyard, including; City Park Pool, Morning Fresh Dairy, Denver Zoo, and Rocky Mountain National Park. For many of our kids, these were new destinations full of new experiences with opportunities to create new friendships and unforgettable moments.

From our award-winning Behavioral Health Team to the leadership of our Club Directors and Youth Development Specialists, the staff at BGCLC is without a doubt the best in the business. They are role models, mentors, and friends to youth of all ages. In many moments, they are the listening ear and supportive voice that a child needs to get through the day. They encourage, inspire, and lift each other up when the weeks get long. It is an honor and a privilege to do this work alongside them and they push me to be a better leader daily.

A HUGE THANK YOU to our BGCLC staff for an incredible summer and to our committed donors and volunteers who help make these many memories last a lifetime for our kids!

Summer of Discovery Graduation

We are happy to announce that we had 107 graduates of our Summer of Discovery program this year! Congratulations to our Fort Collins and Wellington members who worked so hard over the 8-week program!

As one youth participant explains, “I have learned that if you want to be something, you need to be patient and trust the process, but you also need to take initiative to learn specific information about those jobs.”

We were so excited to have our 2023 Champions for Children Award winners, Bob and Barbara Hoel, join us in celebrating the achievements of these incredible members. Thank you to Poudre School District and all of our partners for making this an unforgettable summer.

BGCLC Wins Regional Award for Trauma-Informed Practices

The Roxanne Spillett Award recognizes programs that integrate and are guided by the seven elements of a trauma-informed Club: Awareness, Safety, Trust, Equity, Empowerment, Voice & Choice, Mutual Collaboration, and Connection & Growth. Award-winning Clubs in this category contribute to youth feeling safe, valued, heard, and supported.

The professionals on our Behavioral Health Team are instrumental in making BGCLC a trauma-informed place where youth can thrive. Thanks to their hard work, BGCLC was recognized at the Southwest Regional Conference and received a $5,000 award.

Congrats to BGCLC Staff Emily Hill for winning the Doing It Wright Award

This award is named in honor of Kathi Wright. Kathi helped to create the Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County’s first Club and held the role of Executive Director for more than 18 years. Kathi was known for her leadership, positivity, and dedication to BGCLC; therefore, this award is given each year to a staff member who exemplifies those traits. Congrats to this year’s recipient, Emily Hill, Fort Collins Club Director!

Emily has had several roles within the organization and has always been intentional and passionate about doing things to the best of her ability. She has always taken the staff and youth experience as her top priority and her classroom management skills have helped many others develop in their roles. Congrats Emily!
