“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

HappyNew Year from Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County! As we celebrate the life and important work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this week, I want to share my gratitude for those who supported BGCLC during our year-end campaign and came together to give of themselves to support our youth and families. In December, we collected 945 gifts from 15 different businesses and individuals to ensure that every youth who attends BGCLC could experience the joy of the holidays during our Club parties. Our generous donors and volunteers also supported 42 families, or 169 individuals, with 100 bags full of gifts and $8,450 worth of grocery gift cards.

I am incredibly proud to be part of a community that is so committed to giving back and doing for others. As the temperature drops, it warms my heart to see us rally together to build partnerships and creative solutions to the issues that affect us all. At the end of this month, BGCLC will successfully complete our main floor renovations at the Loveland Youth Campus and the result will be a significant expansion of 0-5 child care for local families. Through our collaboration with Teaching Tree Early Childhood Center, Early Childhood Council of Larimer County, and United Way of Larimer County, this first of its kind comprehensive youth and family campus is coming to life and will be filled with children of all ages in March.

We are also excited to be growing our relationships in the Estes Park community and are extremely grateful for the $75,000 grant investment that the Town of Estes Park has made in our programming. BGCLC is actively participating in the Estes Park child care needs assessment and joining local stakeholder meetings to share our knowledge and expertise on out-of-school enrichment and youth development. We look forward to offering more services to families in the Estes Park community this summer and next school year.

There is no greater return on an investment than the one that we make in our children. As we embark on this next year, I deeply appreciate your commitment to inspiring bright futures for all kids in our community through Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County. If you have questions about our work or ideas on how we can continue to grow our impact, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at ahines@bgclarimer.org. Here’s to creating great things together in 2024!

With gratitude,

Allison Hines

Club Alumni Spotlight: Avery Uhlich

Avery Uhlich attended Club from kindergarten through 4th grade. Currently, she is the Program Lead at Riverview a CSU student. Here’s what she had to say about her Club experience…

Why did you choose to be a part of the BGCLC team?

I went to the Boys and Girls Club as a kid and loved it. When I saw a position open I knew I wanted to make a positive impact on children’s lives.

How did your Club experience play a role in your current aspirations?

At Club I was a Junior Staff during my later years which allowed me to develop leadership and communication skills early on that helped me step into my current role.

What was your favorite part about going to Club as a kid?

My favorite part of going to Club was being able to hangout with my friends after school, in fact that is how I met my best friend to this day. A memory that sticks out about BGC is when one of our senior volunteers taught a group of us how to crochet!

Program Highlight: Turkey Bowl

Our Annual Turkey Bowl provides a high-quality sports experience that gives club members opportunities to have fun, build character, practice sportsmanship and develop skills that will help them become responsible citizens who can have happy, healthy lives.

The tournament was on November 21st and included Fort Collins, Harmony, Wellington, and Loveland-Pulliam Clubs. Members from other Clubs also participated in the Mini Bowl flag football game. Wellington and Loveland-Pulliam cheerleaders also faced off in a cheerleading competition! When asked how his game went, one member from Fort Collins said “It was incredible! We played good, we didn’t fight, we were a team.”

Congratulations to Club Harmony for winning the tournament! And congrats to Clubs Truscott and Garfield for winning the Mini Bowl! The Loveland-Pulliam cheer squad also won the cheerleading competition. Afterwards, Club Directors handed out medals to youth who showed great sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork throughout the season.
