This award is named in honor of Kathi Wright. Kathi helped to create the Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County’s first Club and held the role of Executive Director for more than 18 years. Kathi was known for her leadership, positivity, and dedication to BGCLC; therefore, this award is given each year to a staff member who exemplifies those traits. Congrats to this year’s recipient, Kiara Redmond, HR Manager!
Kiara began her career at BGCLC as a Youth Development Specialist, where she found a connection to our mission. Since she transitioned to her current position as HR Manager, she has applied her knowledge of Club to her incredible support of Club Staff.
Can you tell us a bit about your journey with Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County?
I started at BGCLC as a Youth Development Specialist while I was still in college. I started working here as a way to gain experience and develop my skills working with youth. Our mission stuck with me and helped me realize that I wanted to grow within this organization. My current role as Human Resources Manager, allows me to continue to serve our mission in a different way, by supporting our incredible staff who interact with our youth everyday!
What do you love most about your job?
Supporting our Staff Members. As a YDS, my focus was ensuring the wellbeing of our Club Members. In HR, I get the privilege of supporting our staff who ensure the safety of our youth and bring our mission to life.
Is there a particular moment or memory at the Club that stands out to you as especially meaningful?
Some of my favorite and most meaningful memories are when Club Members reminded me to bring out my inner child. One member taught me how to make loom band bracelets and another taught me how to make keychains with fuse beads. These are activities I didn’t get to do growing up. Experiencing those moments alongside our Club Members brought me joy and encouraged me to be a stronger role model for them.
How has working at the Club impacted you personally or professionally?
Personally, the emphasis on trauma-informed practices has taught me patience, empathy, and understanding. All things I’ve carried into my relationships and interactions outside of work. Professionally, BGC has helped me develop my career. Everyday I learn from the incredible people around me and that continuous growth helps me become a better person, personally and professionally.
